Known for delivering technical education, including GIS and AWS training, to schools and colleges, it has significantly strengthened capacity-building among educators and professionals. LIGHTS organises high-level workshops and conferences, such as the reputable Science and Geopolitics of Arctic-Antarctic (SaGAA), and senior government official training under the PARI programme. Additionally, LIGHTS shapes public policy, particularly in cryospheric sciences, and publishes the Geography and You journal in Hindi and English. The organisation is headquartered in New Delhi.

Job Summary:
To provide training to students, teachers and parents in 50 schools for the mental health first-aid programme with the counselling tools developed by LIGHTS and IHBAS. You would need to work with a team of 8 members.
Key Responsibilities & Duties:
  • Assessment & Planning: Conduct comprehensive literature- and practice-based assessments and develop a background to support counselling tool development.
  • Psychoeducation: Facilitate student, teacher, and parent sessions on issues like stress, depression, addiction, trauma and self-image. Educate students, teachers and families on mental health, wellness, coping mechanisms, and preventive care.
  • Intervention: Help create peer groups in schools to address issues on a long-term basis
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate, confidential, and timely records, progress notes, and reports in compliance with regulations.
  • Collaboration & Referral: Liaise with school leadership/ parents to ensure continuity of care and facilitate appropriate referrals.
  • Professional Development: Stay up to date on best practices, ethical standards, and emerging therapeutic approaches.
Requirements:
Education: Master's degree in Counselling, Psychology, Social Work, Child development, or a related field.
Experience: Proven experience in mental health counselling, preferably with experience in group work or specific program areas (e.g., substance abuse, youth, etc.).
Skills: Strong empathy, active listening, communication, conflict resolution, crisis management, cultural competency, and clinical assessment skills.

It requires 3+ years' experience, with core duties including leading research projects, facilitating discussions, and contributing to strategic policy development in specialised fields (such as Arctic-Antarctic research, Ocean/space research, and global resource politics intersecting with climate change issues).

About the Role:
We are seeking a distinguished PhD-qualified individual to join our team as a Fellow, contributing significant expertise and leading research initiatives in regional development, Arctic-Antarctic research, ocean and space research, and global resource politics intersecting with climate change issues. This role involves in-depth analysis, policy-oriented research, and active engagement with diverse stakeholders to shape impactful policy solutions. LIGHTS is opening two Fellow positions for now.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Research Leadership: Design, manage, and execute complex, interdisciplinary research projects from conception to publication, focusing on novel insights and evidence-based recommendations.
  • Policy Analysis and Writing: Produce high-quality, impactful outputs, including policy briefs, reports, articles, and op-eds, translating complex research into actionable policy advice.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Cultivate and maintain relationships with policymakers, government officials, academics, industry leaders, and civil society organisations.
  • Knowledge Dissemination: Organise and lead workshops, seminars, and policy forums to share research findings and foster dialogue.
  • Mentorship: Provide guidance and support to junior researchers and analysts within the team.

Qualifications & Experience:
  • Education: PhD in Geography, Economics and Sociology from a recognised institution.

  • Analytical Skills: Exceptional ability to interpret complex data, design rigorous methodologies, and synthesise findings.
  • Communication: Superior written and verbal communication skills, with proven ability to present complex ideas to diverse audiences.

Role:

The Business Development Officer role in book publishing emphasises new book projects, managing author/client relationships, and developing winning publication proposals.

Overview:

We are seeking an ambitious and strategic Book Business Development Officer to drive the acquisition of high-quality book proposals and new organisations. This role is pivotal in identifying new market opportunities, cultivating relationships with prospective clients, and managing the end-to-end proposal process to ensure a robust and profitable publishing pipeline. You will need to work in a team of two members.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead Generation and Client Acquisition: Identify and research potential funding organisations and literary agents in target genres (non-fiction and academic).
  • Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with new and existing clients and key industry stakeholders and ensure a reliable pipeline of high-quality proposals.
  • Market Research and Analysis: Conduct comprehensive market and competitor analyses to identify industry trends, emerging topics, and potential growth opportunities.
  • Proposal Writing and Presentation: Oversee the preparation and delivery of compelling publishing proposals and presentations to the internal editorial board, ensuring all value propositions and market data are clearly articulated.
  • Negotiation and Contracting: Lead contract negotiations with authors and agents, ensuring favourable terms for the organisations and managing the transition to the editorial and production teams.
  • Strategy and Reporting: Develop and implement strategies to achieve revenue targets, tracking performance metrics and reporting to senior management.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Education: A Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Marketing, English, Communications, or a related field is required. A Master's degree or relevant certification is a plus.
  • Experience: Proven experience in sales, business development, or a literary/publishing role with a track record of meeting or exceeding targets. Experience in professional writing or proposal management is highly desirable.
  • Communication: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills are paramount for pitching ideas, writing proposals, and negotiating contracts.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong strategic and analytical thinking skills to assess market data, evaluate proposals, and forecast trends.
